Valentine’s Day biscuits

Valentine’s Day biscuits

Whether you celebrate Valentine’s day with a romantic meal or just a few loving words it is a fun excuse to get into the kitchen to do some baking.

Love heart biscuits look great and are super easy to make with only a handful of ingredients and love heart cookie cutter. It is as simple as adding colour to a quarter of the dough, cutting out love hearts, stacking them on top of each other and then wrapping them in the remaining dough and gently rolling into a circle.

This recipe can also be used for plain biscuits or any cut out biscuits.

ingredients
180g butter
150g castor sugar
1 egg
400g flour
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
*Optional red food colouring

directions
1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C. Beat together butter and sugar. (Thermomix 10 seconds, speed 5)
2. Add egg and beat until combined. (Thermomix 5 seconds, speed 5, scape down bowl and repeat)
3. Add flour and vanilla and mix until all combined and mixture has a dough like consistency. (Thermomix 1 minute, speed 6).
4. Place a quarter of the mixture in a small bowl and add a few drops of red food dye and mix together.
5. Roll out red dough and cut out out heart shapes placing the cut outs on top of each other pressing gently together.
6. Once all red dough has been cut and stacked, take a handful of the plain dough and make it into a sausage shape the length of the heart stack and press gently into the top of the heart.
7. Continue to flatten the plain dough, covering the heart stack and forming a log. Once all covered the log can be rolled a few times to ensure a circle smooth edge.
8. Slice the dough and place biscuits on baking tray, baking for 15 minutes. The biscuits should have golden edges when cooked. Allow to cool completely before eating and sharing with loved ones.
